856,723. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. KORBER, K. Dec. 2, 1957 [Jan. 22, 1957], No. 37453/57. Class 130 Circular or oval cigarettes 3 on the delivery band 2 of a continuous-rod machine are transferred without uncontrolled rotation to grooves 18 of a drum 15 by a gripper 14 travelling in an elliptical path under the action of intergeared cranks 6, 7 to which the gripper stem 10 is pivoted respectively slidably in a sleeve 8 and non-slidably in an adjustable clamp 9. The members 8, 9 may be mounted on adjustable eccentrics. An adjustable joint 13 is provided, as is a replaceable gripper head 14a. Gripping may be by suction applied at appropriate times. The cigarettes on transfer may be first accelerated to above the drum feed speed and then slowed thereto, and they may be rotated slightly on coaction with the gripper until they engage its operative profile. The drum 15 may be part of filter mouthpiece attaching machinery.
