Abstract

Mouthpiece components are spaced apart by a screw thread on a rotatable member 15, each group of components being fed into the space between a pair of cigarette lengths CL to form groups which are united and then bisected to form individual cigarettes. The mouthpiece components are fed from hoppers 1, 2, as described in Specification 971,491, hopper 2 feeding pairs of short stubs and hopper 1 single longer stubs. The wheel 15 has a presser device as described in Figs. 7-10 of Specification 971,491 to retard the rear stub of each pair of short stubs to allow entry of the thread of the wheel 15 between the pair of short stubs, whereby a group of stubs comprising a long stub between a pair of short stubs is fed as a single group by the wheel 15 and into the space between each pair of cigarette lengths. The long stub may be a composite stub with a hollow space in the middle, or it may be a length of cigarette rod so that the final mouthpiece has tobacco at the mouthpiece end.
