Abstract

855,374. Expanding-wheel gear. MEADOWCROFT & SON Ltd., W. June, 19, 1958 [March 5, 1958], No. 7023/58. Class 80 (2). An expanding pulley comprises a flange 12 keyed to a shaft 16 rotatably mounted in a housing 18, and a flange 14 splined to the hub of flange 12 and connected to a rod 32 carrying a follower roller 38 co-operating with a wedge 46 sliding in guides in the housing 18. The wedge may be displaced by lever, cam, screw or push-rod mechanism to adjust the flange 14, a vee-belt passing around the pulley maintaining the follower in contact with the wedge. A driving, or driven, sprocket 50 is fast with the flange 12, and the belt passes around a driven, or driving, pulley having a spring-loaded axially movable flange.
