854,745. Metal vapour lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 2, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 29957/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1). A light source comprises at least one metal vapour discharge lamp, which may have a sodium filling, there being a number of straight tubular envelope portions joined by bands, and at least as many electrodes, in the source, as bends in the tubes, which are arranged so that each bend is heated to the same extent as the straight portions by electrodes which are adjacent to them. In one form a light source comprises an envelope, three parallel limbs joined by two bends so that each of two electrodes are arranged adjacent, and symmetrically to two limbs and the bend joining them. In another form the light source is formed by two U-tube shaped discharge tubes which are disposed so that the electrodes of each tube are adjacent to the bead of the other.
