In a gas and/or vapour discharge lamp comprising a discharge tube 1, 2 sup ported within an envelope 6 wherein an end of the dis charge tube extends through an aperture in a plate 7 extending trans versely to the central longi tudinal axis of the enve lope, the plate 7 is resi liently centred inside the envelope by means of a centring structure com prising two substantially U - shaped blade spring portions 8, 9 arranged sym metrically about the centre of the plate, the inner limb 10, 11 of each spring por tion being connected to the plate so that these inner spring limbs bear directly or indirectly (e.g. through electrically and/or therm ally insulating members against the discharge tube and the outer limbs 12, 13 bear directly or indirectly against the envelope 6 and extend towards each other in an arcuate fashion. The ends of the arcuate portions 14 engage in a collar 15 surrounding a pinch 16 of the envelope 6. Additional springs 17 and (18) (not shown) may be connected to the plate 7 to bear at their ends against the envelope. A pip 20 engages an aperture in a plate 19 supported by a similar arrangement of springs of which the additional springs 26 and (27) or the modified additional springs (35) (Fig. 5, not shown) bear against the bend 5 of the discharge tube. The envelope 6 may have an internal heat insulating coating of transparent conductive tin oxide.
