Abstract

854,548. Turbine blades. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. July 25, 1958, No. 23992/58. Class 110 (3). In a bladed rotor, such as an elastic fluid turbine rotor, having a series of blades mounted in an undercut groove in the rotor and an entering slot for the insertion of the blades, the last blade is locked in position by a locking device comprising two locking members each of which when in locking position engages the root of the last blade and also a portion of the walls of the entering slot, the locking members having mutually abutting faces and the root of the last blade having a platform, a portion of which overhangs both locking members in their locking positions. The rotor may have more than one row of blades fixed in this manner. As shown, the last blade 22, Fig. 4, has a root portion 24 with side walls 41 and end walls 44 fitting corresponding side and end walls 26, 27 in the entering slot which intersects an annular undercut groove 14. The end walls 27 and 44 each have semi-circular grooves 31 and 47 respectively. The walls of the grooves have circumferential projections or serrations 33, 50 adapted to mesh with corresponding projections 74, Fig. 5, on the curved surfaces of two pairs of semi-cylindrical locking members 64, 65. One, 64, of each pair of locking members has a head 71 with a non- circular socket 72. The members 64 are assembled in the grooves 47 so that their flat surfaces 75 are in the same plane as the end walls 44. Similarly, the members 65 are arranged in the grooves 31 so that their flat surfaces 75 are in the same plane as the end walls 27. The last blade is then placed in the entering slot and each pair of locking members is turned through 90 degrees by means of a suitable tool operating in the sockets 72 so that a portion of each locking member lies under an overhanging portion 59 of the platform 18 of the last blade.
