Abstract

851,555. Gas-washing. FARRINGDON WORKS & H. PONTIFEX & SONS Ltd., BAINBRIDGE, C. A., and CAPLIN, F. C. March 18, 1959 [April 3, 1958], No. 10851/58. Class 55 (2). Gas to be cleaned and washed enters a chamber 1 and passes in parallel through a series of, e.g. six Venturi tubes 4 each having a nozzle 8 for spraying liquid into the gas as it enters the tubes, the divergent portions of the Venturi tubes being connected to tubes 5 which have helical vanes 121 to impart helical flow to the gas and entrained liquid passing therethrough and separate gas and liquid by centrifugal force. The tubes 5 are intercepted as shown to provide outlets 11 for liquid running down the walls of the tubes 5 and the helical vanes 121 may be arranged around a streamlined body 12. A combined stream of cleaned gas is withdrawn from a chamber 14 by line 15 and separated liquid from all the Venturi tubes is collected in a chamber 9 and withdrawn through line 13.
