Abstract
819,891. Quenching coke. STILL, K. F., [trading as STILL, C. [Firm of]]. Aug. 28, 1957 [Sept. 24, 1956], No. 27159/57. Class 51 (2). In the wet-quenching of coke, a loaded coke car is run into a quenching chamber I connected with a vent stack 3 by a damper-controlled aperture 4, further damper-controlled openings 5 being provided at the foot of the stack to act as break-draughts. Dust and steam escaping into the stack encounters baffles 6 comprising inverted V-shaped troughs associated with spray nozzles 7. Each spray nozzle comprises a cyclone-like body with a tangential water inlet, a lower outlet and an upper closable cleaning aperture.
