851,533. Adjustable struts for scaffolding and trenches. BURTON, J. April 28, 1958 [April 27, 1957], No. 13487/57. Class 20(2) An adjustable strut for scaffolding or a shore for trenches comprises a screw threaded bar 11 and a nut 14 respectively engaging the ends of coaxial tubes 21, 17 enclosed in a sleeve 23 which is connected by a bolt 24 to the head 13 of the bar 11 which is adapted to be turned by a tommy bar through a hole 27 to adjust the distance between the tubes 17, 21. The tube 21 engages a rotatable thrust collar 19 on the head 13. Relative rotation of the nut 14 and the tube 17 is prevented by a roughened washer 29. Set screws 32 in the sleeve 23 engaging tubes 17, 21, lock the adjustment.
