Abstract

851,019. Metal working presses. MASSEY Ltd., B. & S., and FOSTER, J. Feb. 7, 1958 [Feb. 11, 1957], No. 4554/57. Class 83 (4). A metal-working press has its ram 12 actuated through a connecting-rod 11 by an eccentric 10 and the position of the ram relatively to the press bed 33 is adjustable by means, 16, 17 located within the connecting-rod and controlled electrically by a push-button A' located at the front of the press. The connecting-rod 11 is connected to the ram by a gudgeon-pin 13 and also has a knuckle joint 14 for transmitting the load thereto. Eccentric 10 rotates within a rotatively adjustable eccentric bush 15 frictionally engaged by a releasable strap 24 of the connecting-rod 11. The bush 15 which may be split, has integral therewith or attached thereto segmental worm teeth 16 meshing with a worm 17 driven by an electric motor 21. Strap 24 is releasable from frictional engagement by a toggle linkage 26 actuated by an air motor 30, 31, supplied through a solenoid valve 32. Pushbutton A on the front of the press actuates through solenoid B the valve 32 for releasing the strap and then through contactor D, E the motor 21 for effecting the adjustment with predetermined limits controlled by a limit switch. An adjustment indicator 36 is provided.
