Abstract

1389097 Screw jacks METALLIFACTURE Ltd 3 Dec 1973 [7 Dec 1972] 56625/72 Heading B8J [Also in Division F2] A jack comprises a body 11 housing a screw 12, a nut 13 engaged with the screw 12 and carrying a load-bearing member 13a, a crown gear 14 (having a peripheral flange provided on its free edge with teeth) fixed with respect to the screw 12, a pinion 20 rotatably mounted on the side of the body 11 and in mesh with the crown gear, a lever arm 22 with a knob 23 for rotating the pinion 20 and a collar 25 mounted on and at the top of the body 11 and upwardly deformed over the teeth of the gear. The gear (14) may be fixed with respect to the nut (13) in which case the screw (12) carries the load (not shown). A guard 28 surrounds the pinion 20 and overlies the teeth at the point of mesh with the crown gear 14.
