Abstract

849,735. Window frames. FRANCOTTE, P. G. J. May 28, 1957 [May 29, 1956], No. 16976/57. Class 20(3) A window frame assembly comprises in combination a frame member 20, having an elongated box-like portion, Fig. 5, of rectangular crosssection and two laterally disposed flanges 14, 14a of different lengths extending perpendicularly from one wall 17 of the box-like portion, and a secondary member, such as 33, Fig. 10, having means for holding a pane 34, which is removably secured to the wall 21 of the portion remote from the flanges 14, 14a. The frame member may have a slot 43, Figs. 7 and 10, in the wall 21 and the secondary member may include guttering 35. The frame assembly may be used for a double-glazed window, Fig. 11. For a window having a fixed sash adjacent a movable sash, Fig. 7, frame members with or without slots are used for the fixed and movable frames of the movable sash whilst box-like members 22 having a slot but no flanges comprise three sides of the fixed sash, the flanged frame member 411 serving a side member of both sashes. The frame members are assembled by means of angle irons 28 disposed inside the box-like portions of the frame members and having equal flanges except at the joint between the top frame member of the fixed sash and the member 411 common to that sash and the fixed frame of the movable sash. The frame members may be mounted on a wall be means of a flange 40, Fig. 12. Alternatively, a frame member may be clamped to a fixing member embedded in the wall and projecting therefrom, by means of a bolt within the box-like portion of the frame member and protruding through a slot such as 43, Fig. 10.
