Abstract

Class 20(3) A door, or window, frame member, for fitting into an opening in a cavity wall structure, comprises a sheet of metal a which is shaped, e.g. by pressing, to channel form and has a width corresponding to the cavity b between the inner and outer portions c, d of the wall, laterally extending feet e being provided at its lower end for imbedding between two courses of the brick-work as the wall is being constructed. If desired, a similar pair of projecting parts e can be provided at the upper end of the member, another lateral projection f, for locating the member, preferably being provided near its lower end. Pairs of ties, consisting of transversely corrugated flexible metal strips g secured, e.g. by welding, to appropriate positions along the sides of the member, are bent over and also imbedded between corresponding courses of bricks during the building of the wall. A flange h is provided on the member for the attachment, e.g. by screws, or nails, of the adjacent vertical side of the door, or window, frame. In a modification the closure member is shaped to form a hollow head of greater width than the cavity, and is adapted for the attachment thereto of a door or window frame, the rear side of the head being formed with at least one flange adapted to enter the cavity b. The closure member is provided with at least the ties g and may have projecting posts such as e. In a further modification, Fig. 4, a channel part a occupies the cavity space b and flanges i, having ties g, abut against the ends of the wall parts. One flange i is provided with a projection h for the attachment of a window, or door, frame.
