Abstract

640,735. Garages. UNIVERSAL ASBESTOS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and HENDERSON, M. B. Feb. 9, 1948, No. 3750. [Class 20(i)] A building is constructed of corrugated asbestos-cement sheets without steel framing, the sheets 1 being lapped in the length of the building to constitute the sides and their upper parts being bent inwards at 3 to form the roof, the upper extremity of each sheet at one side of the building lapping the upper extremity of the opposite sheet of the other side at 4, each side thus being integral from floor to roof ridge. The extremities of the sheets on one side may be joggled at 4a to effect a smooth overlap. Corrugated asbestos cement sheets 2 forming the rear end of the building are lapped with the sheets 1 at the angle 6 between the sides and rear of the building and a vertical cover strip fitting into the corrugation of the end sheets may be provided to cover any gap between them. The building may be fitted with doors at the front comprising asbestos-cement: sheets 16 mounted on a wooden frame 20, 21, 22 hinged to wooden posts 24 secured to flanges 9 formed by flattening the end edges of the adjacent side sheets. A triangular filling piece may be fitted between the doors and roof, made up of two asbestos-cement sections 26 overlapping at 28 and secured to a wooden tie beam 31. The door may be dished as at 17 and/or embossed as at 18, and the sections 26 may be dished as at 27. The upper inclined parts of the two side sheets next the doors may be extended at 7 to form a canopy. A window may be provided in a side sheet by fitting round an opening therein corrugated asbestos-cement frames 33 fitted with sashes 34. The various joints in the building are secured by bolts or rivets which may be galvanised.
