Abstract

787,643. Lintels. HOPE & SONS, Ltd., H. Dec. 7, 1955 [Sept. 27, 1954], No. 27802/54. Class 20(4) A lintel for an opening in a wall required to accommodate a window, or door, frame and which is adapted to support the underface of an outer wall part a of the masonry, comprises a sheet metal member which is bent to form a hollow stiffening rib c such that one face of the rib can serve as an abutment for the flanged edge of the window, or door, frame d and two flat parts b make contact with the under wall part a. The outer edge of the lintel may be bent down to form a weather shield e, the inner edge being shaped to provide a part which serves to effect the keying of a plaster layer g. The inner edge may be extended to form a pelmet h. The rib c, which may be incorporated as a separate part welded to the part b, can be stiffened by an insert i as shown. In a modification fig. 4, a part j can be bent up at right angles to extend into the masonry.
