Abstract

758,970. Bolted joints. GWYNNE, J. M. May 12, 1954 [May 18, 1953], No. 13964/54. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group X] Two members 40, 45, Fig. 11, forming part of a window or door frame are joined at right angles by a means of threaded connecting members 50, such as self-threading nails or screws, which pass through apertures 49 in member 45 and engage one or other pair of spaced flanges 44 provided on member 40. The members 40, 45 are extruded metal channels having flanges 41, 46, and webs 42, 47, respectively, the flanges having spaced grooves such as 48 for nailing or decorative purposes. The flanges 44 which extend longitudinally of member 40 are curved so as to enclose a space which is part-cylindrical. As shown applied to a sash frame comprising top and bottom members 10, 11, Fig. 2, connected to side members 12, 13, Fig. 3, the top and bottom members have apertures through which threaded connectors 30, 31 pass into engagement with spaced flanges 22 formed on the members 12, 13. The top member 10 is a tubular member of rectangular section having an overhang 16 and depending flange 17, whilst the bottom member 11 has inturned flanges 18<SP>1</SP>, 20 which form grooves to receive a sealing strip 21. The glass pane 14 is held in place between flanges 23, 24 which are formed on all four members 10-13, by a strip 15 of neoprene. The screws 30, 31 are also used to secure spacing clips 35, 36, Fig. 8, the latter having elongated apertures 35<SP>1</SP>, 36<SP>1</SP>, which allow of variation in the widths of sash and window frames and provide means for inserting and withdrawing the sash from the fixed frame. Apertures 35<SP>11</SP>, 36<SP>11</SP> in clips 35, 36, register with apertures 37, 38 in the top and bottom members respectively for accommodating the operating and balancing mechanism (not shown).
