Abstract

847,357. Drafting machines. HALL HARDING Ltd. Aug. 14, 1957 [Aug. 14, 1956], No. 24836/56. Class 97(3) A drafting machine includes a tubular rail mounted for parallel motion over the face of a drawing board, and a drafting head with two pairs of rollers having concave peripheral surfaces engaging either side of the rail, one pair being spring loaded and the drafting head being slidable along and rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the rail. As shown, a plate 2 carries pads 7 at its ends which slide on the drawing board, and guides 8 which engage the edges of the board. Clamps 14 attached to the members 8 link the plate 2 with the wires 16 of a parallel motion mechanism comprising a shaft, and pulleys 22, 24 over which the wires pass and balancing weights 28. A tubular rail 34 is mounted on the plate 2 by V blocks 30. The drafting head (Fig. 2) comprises a base plate 50 carrying fixed spindles 52 on which are mounted nylon rollers 54 with grooved peripheries which engage the rail 34. A second pair'of rollers 54 are mounted in bifurcated rotatable members 64 which are spring urged towards the rail to provide gripping of it. In a further embodiment, provision is made for adjusting the parallelism of the rail 34 by means of a microsetter arrangement.
