Abstract
<PICT:0847274/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0847274/IV (c)/2> Apparatus for treating hosiery comprises a heated chamber 2 which may be pressurized or subjected to vacuum, and two closed circuit conveyers 1 which carry the articles to be treated into and out of the chamber. A measured quantity of treating liquid taken either from a reservoir 4 or from ducts by a vessel 12 having an adjustable piston is circulated through a rotatable or reciprocable sprinkler 14 by a pump 13. The temperature in the chamber 2 is raised above 100 DEG C. by steam pressure, the steam atmosphere in addition to the sprinkled liquid being used to treat the articles, and the chamber is provided with doors 7. Driers 3 and other treatment apparatuses are provided in the conveyers circuits and the movement of the formers is effected by electrically driven gears 9, the formers being closed up when in the chamber 2 and the driers 3. The entire operation of the machine including pH regulation may be effected automatically, and thermally responsive circuits control the heating of the chamber and the treatment vapour.
