Abstract

Apparatus for the treatment of stockings &c. comprises a plurality of separate small treatment chambers, each of a size to take only one item, the chambers being juxtaposed in a straight line or circle and heated, and each of which immediately after loading may be sealed by hand or automatically to enable different treatments of the individual items to be effected continuously by an appropriate arrangement of supply pipes and controls, the chambers remaining sealed from each <PICT:0774797/IV(b)/1> <PICT:0774797/IV(b)/2> <PICT:0774797/IV(b)/3> <PICT:0774797/IV(b)/4> <PICT:0774797/IV(b)/5> other until the cycle of treatment is complete. Figs. 3 and 4 show an apparatus for the treatment of stockings 3 which are mounted vertically on forms each in a treatment chamber 14 which are disposed in a ring so that heated treatment liquid from a container 18 is sprayed into the chamber or passes into the chamber and is extracted from an opening 20 in the base. The treatment may take place under pressure, flaps then being provided for closing each treatment chamber 14, and the liquid extracted from the bottom of the apparatus may be re-heated and pumped back to container 18. The chambers 14 are mounted on a rotatable baseplate 15 which may be enclosed by an annular work table 24 which rotates in the opposite direction to the treatment chambers so that the operator may extract forms from chambers 14 and place them for further treatment on work table 24. Thus rinsing and drying may be carried out in chamber 14 or by use of surrounding jackets 25 covering sectors A and B of table 24. In sector A washing liquid may be sprayed on to the forms and in sector B hot air may be circulated either on to the table 24 or through a surrounding jacket. Opening and closing of the sealing flap of chambers 14 may be effected by hand, or automatically by cam rails. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which heating chambers 21 are interposed between the treatment chambers and the whole is surrounded by a cylindrical sealing jacket having an opening 23 through which the treatment chambers may be charged or emptied. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), each treatment chamber has a closure flap which opens inwardy into each chamber and is kept sealed when treatment is in progress by the pressure inside the chamber. In a further modification, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the stockings are treated in chambers arranged horizontally in a ring and are subsequently treated in a vertical position on the surrounding annular work table. The stockings may be treated in chambers arranged vertically in a ring and then either raised or lowered into a second vertical arrangement for subsequent treatment, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). Figs. 11 and 12 show apparatus in which two series of treatment chambers 38, 39 and 40, 41 respectively are associated with a single circular rotating work table 24 (Fig. 11) or with a horizontal conveyer 42 (Fig. 12) on to which the forms are placed. Channels may be provided above the conveyer belt 42 for heating, or sprinkling treatments to be performed.
