Abstract

<PICT:0633135/IV (c)/1> An apparatus for treating textiles with steam, comprises a treatment chamber 3 resting upon supports 4 and divided into upper and lower compartments 3a and 3b by a perforated plate 19, a vacuum pump 14 and a means of supplying added heat as by a copper steam coil 21. The process of the invention is carried out by charging the materials into the treatment chamber 3a, applying a controllable degree of extraneous heat by the steam coil 21, simultaneously or subsequently admitting steam into the evacuated space and breaking the falling vacuum before deleterious condensation takes place.
