Abstract

<PICT:0667210/IV (c)/1> Fabrics are submitted to treatment in open width and in continuous length in order to evaporate the solvent of a chemical agent applied thereto and to cause the chemical action of said agent, by projecting the superheated vapour of the solvent, e.g. superheated steam, on to the fabric in the form of high-speed jets, the speed, outflow and temperature of the jets being sufficient to cause evaporation of the solvent and to attain the temperature of the reaction both on the surface and within the body of the fabric. Suitable apparatus comprises an impregnating bath 5 for the chemical, e.g. a dyestuff or resinous precondensate, a closed chamber 7, nozzles 13 and 14, fans 17 and 18, and steam pipes 21, 22, 23 and 24 supplied with superheated steam.
