Abstract
A process for the continuous printing and dyeing preferably of heavy lisle articles, such as lengths of carpets, heavy plushes and the like, wherein the length of material after printing or after impregnation with the dye is subjected to a compound condensation heating followed by condensation free heating with return evaporation of the condensed liquid, to practically storage treatment temperature. Then the material is subjected to storage treatment in pure steam, preferably while being guided initially horizontally, and then in hanging loops. Then the material is washed, possibly subjected to suction and dried directly thereafter. The present invention is particularly characterized in that the condensation heating taking place at the beginning of the entire heat and steam treatment is applied primarily upon the back side of the length of material being heated, while the following condensation free heating, which is preferably a ray heating and which may take place partly at the same time as the condensation heating is primarily applied upon the front side of the material.

According to a prior German patent application Ser. No. P 1633 376.7 of the same assignee, the lengths of materials after printing or after impregnation with the dye are heated nearly or completely to the storage treatment temperature by a combined condensation heating followed by a condensation free heating with partial return evaporation of the condensed liquid. Then the material is subjected to storage treatment in pure steam preferably while being guided initially horizontally and then in hanging loops. Then the material is washed, possibly subjected to suction and dried directly thereafter.
An object of the present invention is to improve this process and the device for carrying it out.
Other objects will become apparent in the course of the following specification.
In the accomplishment of the objectives of the present invention it was found particularly advantageous if in the course of the described process the condensation heating at the beginning of the entire heat and steam treatment would be applied primarily upon the back side of the length of material being heated while the following condensation free heating would be applied primarily upon its front side. Preferably, the condensation free heating is a heating by rays and it may be advantageous to carry it out partly at the same time as the condensation heating.
The present invention fully utilizes the advantages of quick heating by condensation heating while eliminating its drawbacks, namely, a strong water dilution of the dyes.
A device for carrying out the process of the present invention has a heating chamber or heating length for the condensation heating which is located at the beginning of a heat treating or storage chamber. or is placed ahead of it. The last section of the heating chamber is provided with devices for a condensation free heating of the length of material.
According to the present invention it was found particularly advantageous to carry out the heating for the condensation heating of the length of material by means of steam boxes into which saturated steam is flown. The boxes are provided on one side with openings or are completely open. The length of material is moved at a small distance over this open side or while its rear surface lies directly upon it. As devices for the condensation free heating of the length of material infra red ray emitters were found to be particularly effective. They are arranged adjacent the side of the length of material which extends opposite to the steam boxes.
The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing the sole figure of which is a diagrammatic section through a device of the present invention.
The drawing shows a length of material 10 moving out of the printing and impregnating machine 12. In the example illustrated, this machine has rotary stencils 13. The material moves to the heating location consisting of steam boxes 15. Rollers 16 may be used to guide the material above the boxes. However. the material may be also be moved directly upon the boxes. Steam boxes 15 supply saturated steam primarily to the back surface of the material resulting in a quick heating of the entire material, since due to heat transmission from the back side. the front side of the material is also heated. At the end of the heating section infra red ray emitters 17 are additionally provided over the front surface of the material for its condensation free heating. The infra red ray emitters can be hung upon a support 18 so as to be movable to prevent that when the device is standing still the emitters which is operation are located close to the material, would create burns at these sections of the material.
The heating section can be also located in a front chamber of the heat treating and storage chamber. After the heating section the length of material moves into a prefixing channel II which contains. for example. hot steam of 130C. As shown in the drawing, the material is guided by supporting rollers 14 practically horizontally in the prefixing channel.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device for continuously printing and dyeing preferably heavy lisle articles. such as lengths of carpets, heavy plushes and the like, said device including a heat treating and storage chamber with an end section and a preheating section located in front of said chamber and having a front part, means moving a length of material through said preheating section and into said chamber, said length of material having a back surface and a top surface, partially open steam boxes located in said front part of the preheating section and supplying steam solely to said back surface of the moving length of material for its condensation heating, and infrared ray emitters located at the end section of the heat treating chamber and emitting infrared rays solely upon the top surface of the length of material.
2. A device in accordance with claim 1, wherein the first-mentioned means move the length of material at a short distance from adjacent surfaces of the steam boxes.
Claims (2)
1. In a device for continuously printing and dyeing preferably heavy lisle articles, such as lengths of carpets, heavy plushes and the like, said device including a heat treating and storage chamber with an end section and a preheating section located in front of said chamber and having a front part, means moving a length of material through said preheating section and into said chamber, said length of material having a back surface and a top surface, partially open steam boxes located in said front part of the preheating section and supplying steam solely to said back surface of the moving length of material for its condensation heating, and infrared ray emitters located at the end section of the heat treating chamber and emitting infrared rays solely upon the top surface of the length of material.
2. A device in accordance with claim 1, wherein the first-mentioned means move the length of material at a short distance from adjacent surfaces of the steam boxes.
