Abstract

846,302. Crucibles. LEWIS, E. C., and ALUMASC Ltd. June 10, 1958 [July 5, 1957], No. 21260/57. Class 82(1) A crucible comprises a ferrous pot seating with clearance within a plumbago pot, the interior of the plumbago pot communicating directly at its upper end with said clearance. As shown, plumbago pot 3 seats on a bed of powdered refractory 5 within ferrous pot 1, both pots being enclosed by a cover 7 through which air for low pressure casting may be supplied through inlet 13, the pressure effecting both pots equally. Induction heating means is shown at 6 and molten metal may be forced up tubular stem 12. A refractory stand made of plumbago may replace the powder 5.
