Abstract
633,946. Casting-machines; pouring-apparatus. HOCKING, L. N. Feb. 10, 1947, No. 3838. [Class 83 (i)] In casting turbine blades or other articles by clamping a mould or die 3 to the open end 4 of a pot 1 containing molten metal and then inverting the assemblage as shown, a coal gas or other reducing flame is kept burning over the surface of the metal in the pot during melting. The flame may issue from a burner 10 in the wall of the pot opposite the part down which the metal runs during pouring. The gas pressure may be increased on invertion to assist flow of metal. The mould may be of dense refractory material, e.g. silica bonded with ethyl silicate. The pot may be mounted on trunnions 8 and be surrounded by a highfrequency furnace 2.
