Abstract
688,955. Continuous - - casting machines ; moulds. JUNGHANS, S. May 21, 1951 [May 19, 1950], No. 11853/51. Class 83 (i). In continuous casting of high-melting-point metals a head of molten metal is kept above the mould and gases are vented at its upper edge, the temperature of the metal being such that surface tension prevents any escape of metal at the vent. The pouring tube 2 has its lower edge slightly below and spaced from the upper edge of the mould 1, being supported thereon by webs 3. Oil or other lubricant may be supplied at the vent and it may be shielded by neutral gas. When casting a hollow body the outlet of the pourer 8, Fig. 2, is annular, vents 4 and 11 being formed between the pourer and both the mould 1 and core 7. If desired a number of moulds and pourers may be connected to one container which is directly attached to the outlet of a melting furnace.
