Abstract
A fusible pattern for making metal-casting moulds consists of a cadmium alloy containing 58 to 73 per cent. of mercury.ALSO:Material to be used for forming a mould or mould lining by coating a fusible pattern with it and melting out the pattern before or after supporting it in plaster, sand &c. comprises burnt clay 10 to 60 per cent. or unburnt clay 10 to 40 per cent. or a mixture of the two, silica, sand, talc, mica, or graphite or a mixture of two or more of these 0 to 50 per cent., and the residue water with or without one or more of glycerine, ethylene glycol, ethyl alcohol. In every 100 parts of this mixture 5 to 15 parts of sodium silicate syrup is added. The material to surround and support the coating may comprise china clay 34 per cent., sand 63 per cent., and sodium silicate 3 per cent. with sufficient water to make it mouldable.
