Abstract
845,357. Rain gauges. BENBOW, B. W. April 27, 1959 [April 28, 1958], No. 14342/59. Class 97(3) Water collected by pan 11 passes through aperture 14 to a tubular body 10, which is graduated at 31 and provided with a slidable indicator 32, until the water level rises above a tubular portion 18 of a siphon, whereupon the water passes through recess 21 in cover plate 19, and tubes 16, 17 into a passage 22. A fraction of the water passes through duct 23 into a chamber 12, where the level is measured by comparing peripheral markings 33 on a float 24 with a fixed line 34 on the chamber 12, the float 24 being caused to rotate, as it rises, by means of a spirally twisted strip 26. Chamber 12 may be emptied by removing closure 29.
