Abstract

Textile fabric is treated in apparatus comprising two steaming units and two drying units, <PICT:0844320/IV (c)/1> the fabric passing from a steaming unit to a drying unit, then through a second steaming unit, and finally through a second drying unit, which is fitted with heating means. As shown, fabric 2 passes through steam unit 1 in relaxed or stretched condition, and may then pass between rolls 3, 4 which may be heated, may be fitted with surface lining and/or may be adapted to apply pressure. The fabric then passes to a drying unit which may comprise a set of driven rolls 5 having parallel axes in a common plane and the linear velocity of which may be adjusted with respect to that of rolls 3, 4. Felt or rubber may be used to line rolls 5. Gaps 7 may be arranged between adjacent rolls 5 and pipe 8 fitted to the input end of suction fan 9 may remove moisture from the fabric. The fabric is subsequently passed to steaming unit 10 and finally to another drying unit which may comprise rolls 11 aligned like rolls 5, the linear velocity of which may be slightly less than that of rolls 5, gaps 12, preferably slightly smaller than gaps 7, being arranged between adjacent rolls 11 and a heating device 13 being provided which may be an electric element, a steam heater or an infra red apparatus. Suction fan 16 may remove moisture from the fabric via pipe 15.
