Abstract
842,540. Thermal regenerators. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. March 16, 1959 [March 26, 1958], No. 8951/59. Class 64(1) In a thermal regenerator of the rotary matrix type in which the rotor 10 is divided by diaphrams 16 into sectorshaped compartments for the heat transfer material (not shown), each diaphragm is hollow and fluid passages 36, 38 are provided therein on each side of a radially extending partition 34, the arrangement being such that some of the heating gas entering the regenerator through a duct 20 is directed through a port 46 and thence through the diaphragm passages before reentering the heating gas stream by way of a port 54 adjacent the cooled gas outlet duct 22. By this arrangement thermal distortion of the rotor with consequent reduction of the efficiency of the sealing means is said to be substantially eliminated. In the form shown, the diaphragm passages 36, 38 communicate with the ports 46, 54 through ducts 44, 52 formed in the rotor post 18.
