821,993. Thermal regenerators. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. Jan 27, 1958 [March 5, 1957], No. 2607/58. Class 64(1) In a thermal regenerator employing a rotary matrix 10, through which the heat exchanging fluids are directed by way of ducts 15, 16 and 17, 18, positioned eccentrically of the rotor axis annular sealing members 22A, 22B, are fixed to the facing ends of the ducts 17, 18 carrying one of the fluids to, through and from the matrix 10, each sealing member having a plurality of flow passages 27 (Fig. 3) formed therein permitting fluid flow entirely therearound. In an apparatus such as that shown in which high pressure air is heated by a low pressure gas, the seals, in conjunction with the adjacent sealing surfaces of the rotor, are said to prevent the passing of excessive air therebetween into the lower pressure gas duct 15, 16 and at the same time to serve as fluid flow passageways which permit the equalization of fluid pressure between the seal and the rotor.
