Abstract
1,058,929. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. Nov. 15, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 45160/63. Heading F4K. A counterf3ow thermal regenerator comprises a rotor having a rotor post 10 and a concentric rotor shell 12 joined together by radial partitions to form a series of sector-shaped compartments in which the heat transfer material is carried, a cylindrical housing 18 around the rotor with end plates 22 and 24 having imperforato portions between apertures therein for the fluid flow, a support bearing 36 adjacent the inlet for fluid to be heated supporting the rotor in fixed relation to its adjacent end plate 22, a guide bearing 32 radially supporting the other end of the rotor to permit axial movement thereof, means 44 so supporting the radially inner edges of each end plate as to permit its radial expansion, and radial sealing means 45 at or adjacent the ends of the rotor partitions to lie in sealing relation with the end plates. As shown, each end plate 22, 24 is fixed at its periphery to the rotor housing 18 and at its centre is slidably carried in a slip joint formed in a spool-like member 44. The radial sealing means 45 may be carried by a beam 46 fixed to the rotor post and movably attached by slip joints 48 to the adjacent radial partition at the hot fluid outlet end of the apparatus; or the seals 45 may be secured directly to the radial partitions. Axial sealing means 30 adjustable from outside the housing 18, prevent flow through the chamber 35 and around the rotor.
