Abstract

1412428 Tubular heat exchangers SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN AB 27 Nov 1972 [5 May 1972] 54696/72 Heading F4S In a shell and tube heat exchanger comprising a two part cylindrical housing 1 containing a plurality of open-ended inner tubes 2 extending from the tube plate of a distribution chamber 3 and each surrounded by an outer tube 20 closed at one end (see Fig. 1), the outer tubes 20, which open into a collection chamber 5, are supported by a tube plate 22 welded at its periphery to an end wall 23 of the housing and to a flange 24 which is bolted to a second flange 25 which in turn is welded to the housing 1. The outer tubes 20 are provided with surface enlarging projections 21 on their external surfaces. Open-ended sleeves (7, Fig. 1) may surround parts of the tubes 20. In use steam or other fluid is passed through the tubes 2 and 20 and is condensed by cooling medium passing through the housing and over the tubes. The tube plate supporting the inner tubes 2 may be stepped, as shown, or planar (see Fig. 1). In a modified arrangement (Fig. 1), the tube plate 22 is welded both to the edge of the housing end wall 23 and to the flange 24 which is bolted to the second flange 25, in turn welded to the housing 1.
