Abstract
1,017,774. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. July 17, 1962, No. 27358/62. Heading F4K. A rotary or stationary thermal regenerator matrix comprises sector-shaped, ceramic blocks 39 apertured to permit fluid flow therethrough, and spacer elements 42 adapted to simultaneously provide both lateral and vertical spacing for the blocks. The spacing elements, on their support surfaces, may be provided with a layer of resilient ceramic fibre, and other fibrous ceramic packing may be inserted between the individual blocks and between the assembly and a surrounding housing. In a rotary-matrix type regenerator described in which the rotor rotates on a vertical axis, the ceramic block assembly is supported on a metallic spider carried on the rotor post. A stationary housing surrounding the rotor 4 comprises heat-insulating material packed between double walls. The housing end plates are of ceramic material and a layer of resilient fibrous packing is provided between the upper end plate of the housing and a ceramic sealing plate at the upper end of the rotor.
