Abstract

1303763 Thermal regenerators TUNZINI AMELIORAIR SA 11 May 1971 [17 July 1970] 14329/71 Heading F4K In a ceramic thermal regenerator 1 used to cool hot dust laden gases wherein the regenerator mass is alternately heated by hot dust laden gas and thereafter cooled by a countercurrent flow of cooling air from a blower 9, scavenging of the vertical passages 3 in the ceramic mass is effected, prior to the flow of cooling air, by passing air upwardly through one half of the mass and then downwardly through the other half; after a preselected time period the flow direction of the scavenging air through the mass is reversed. The chamber 8 below the ceramic mass is subdivided by a partition 12 into two parts 10, 11 each provided with independent inlet and outlet valves 13, 14, 15, 16 communicating the chamber respectively with the blower 9 and with an outlet duct 4 leading to dust separation apparatus. Reversal of the scavenging air flow through the mass is effected by reversing the positions of the control valves 13, 14, 15, 16; during scavenging an upper valve 5 remains closed. After scavenging has been completed valves 15 and 16 are closed and valves 5, 13 and 14 are opened thereby allowing cooling air to pass from the blower 9 upwardly through the regenerator mass to finally exit via valve 5.
