Abstract

829,411. Thermal regenerators. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. June 7, 1956 [Aug. 4, 1955], No. 17604/56. Class 64(1) A heating gas and a gas to be heated are passed alternately through a mass of discrete material 46 at such a velocity as to fluidize the mass. In the preferred embodiment, the material is carried by screens 36 secured to radially-extending plates 16 in a rotor mounted in a stationary casing 20 and driven by a motor 30 through a pinion 28 and a ring gear 26. Openings 22 and 24 for the heat-exchanging gases are provided with individually-operated dampers 48 which enable the gas velocity to be adjusted to the value required for fluidization of the material 46. The screens 36 may be formed with undulations extending transversely of the gas flow.
