636,733. Regenerators. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and ALCOCK, J. F. Feb. 4, 1946, No. 3527. Divided out of 636,666. [Class 64(i)] In a rotary regenerator in which a matrix comprised by an annulus 1, drum or disc rotatable about its axis 2 is heated and cooled cyclically by heatemitting and heatabsorbing fluid streams at different pressures, the rotary member is divided into cells 3 and means, e.g., a passage 12 in a partition 7 between the two fluid streams, are provided to connect a cell 14 about to enter one region with a cell 13 which has just left that region, to balance their pressures. In the regenerator shown, for use with a gas turbine, the hot exhaust gases flow from the space 9 through the matrix to the outlet space 22, and the compressed air flows from the space 23 to the space 10. The partition 7 may have curved faces, and contain two or more passages 12 to connect two or more pairs of cells. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention is applicable to a heat exchanger with a stationary matrix.
