Abstract
796,216. Air and gas heaters. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. Nov. 5, 1956 [Dec. 19, 1955], No. 33654/56. Class 64(1) Pellets 29 move downwardly first through an ascending stream of hot gas and then through an ascending stream of cooler gas and are impelled by gravity over slightly inclined screens 25, 27. Gas flows from the inlet 22 through the screens 25 to the outlet 24 of a chamber 10 and heats the pebbles which then give up heat to air flowing through a chamber 12 and the screens 27. The screens 25, 27 are connected by a conveyer 16 and by director vanes 44 and are vibrated either parallel to or transversely of the direction of pellet flow. Restricted duct sections 14, 26 and 34 retard pellet flow to prevent excessive fluid leakage from the chambers 10, 12. Modified constructions are described in which the screens are either alternately inclined from a point midway between the sides of the chambers or are alternately inclined from the opposite sides of the chambers.
