Abstract

842,082. Magnetic amplifiers. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd., S. Oct. 10, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955], No. 28814/55. Class 40 (9). The A.C. input to a resetting magnetic amplifier is gated over a transformer coupling containing two rectifiers switched by an A.C. source. In the full-wave amplifier shown in the Figure load windings 3 and 4 of cores 1 and 2 are energized by a source 14 in alternate halfcycles. The input, which is of the same frequency as source 14 and either in or out of phase with it, is applied at 16 to the primary of a transformer 15 secondary windings 17 and 18 of which are connected in loop circuits with control windings 5 and 6 on cores 1 and 2. Rectifiers 19, 20, and 22, 23, in the loops, are switched by sources 21 and 24 of the same frequency as source 14 such that control current is supplied alternately to cores 1 and 2 whenever the respective load rectifiers 7 and 8 are cut off.
