772,457. Magnetic powder couplings. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S. Nov. 9, 1955 [Aug. 13, 1954], No. 23652/54. Class 35. The response of a magnetic powder coupling or brake to changes in excitation voltage is rendered more rapid by providing two working gaps 13, 14 in series. Flux produced by coil 10 passes through magnetic parts 5, 7, 6 in sequence, and the driven member consists of two cupshaped members 21, 22 in the annular gaps. Specification 649,553, [Group XXXIV], is referred to.
