Abstract
793,127. Magnetic amplifiers. COLLINS RADIO CO. Dec. 23, 1955 [May 16, 1955], No. 36913/55. Class 40 (4). In a resetting type magnetic amplifier comprising a pair of cores 7, 8 having a rectangular hysteresis loop, output circuits feeding a common load 13 include windings on each core, and the output from the winding on core 8 is controlled conjointly by a reset generator 10 and the output signal through the windings on core 7. The amplifier input which is applied across a resistor 20 combines with the output of reset generator 9 to regulate the output from A.C. source 4 through the winding 7. The output is a function of the firing angle. A portion of the output which is diverted through a diode 16 develops a current through a resistor 6 which aids the reset current applied to core 8 by a generator 10 during the firing half-cycle of the circuit including core 7. The reset of core 7 is regulated by the potential developed across a resistor 19 when the circuit including windings on core 8 is firing. Potentials shown are those occurring during this period. Modified circuits which include resistors for improving the time response are described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) and in the former embodiment the control circuit on core 8 comprises a tapped portion of the output winding.
