Resin powder 9 to be sprinkled on a moving fibrous fleece, e.g. a carded web being wound up on a rotating drum 18, is formed into a layer of non- uniform or, as shown, uniform depth resting on a conveyer belt 2 having its upper flight supported by a fixed plate 15, and is fed at a slow rate towards a rotating distributing roller or brush 8 by a transverse strip 12 secured to the conveyer belt, fixed walls 5 being provided at each side of the conveyer to retain the powder, which falls as a curtain 10 on to the fleece. A further rotating brush or scraper roller 11 serves to clean the roller 8. The walls 5 may be connected by transverse members 6 and 7 to form a frame resting on top of the conveyer belt and a layer or strip of felt 16 may be fixed to the lower edges of the frame to form a seal and reduce friction. At the reversal point where the powder is thrown off the belt, the belt passes over a small diameter roller or an angle bar 3 having a rounded front edge. The conveyer belt or the drum 18 may be automatically stopped when the resin supply is consumed. If the layer 9 is thicker at its two ends, the fleece wound on roller 18 has a greater resin content at its two surfaces, so that the finished moulding produced by hot-pressing the fleece has a dense, water-repellent surface.
