Abstract
505,209. Granulating powdered materials. SCHMITT, F. E. Nov. 8, 1937, No. 30591. [Class 86] [Also in Group V] Powdered materials such as cement raw materials, are formed into granules by dropping them on to an ascending portion of a travelling belt, while moistening with water or other liquid, e.g. slurry. The belt 1 is driven by a motor 6, passes round rollers 3, 4, 5, 30, 32 and is guided at its edges by discs 8, forming a sagging portion. Powdered material is delivered from the hopper 20 by the feeding table 21, and liquid from a tank 22 is sprayed thereon. The granulated material finds its way down the belt and is collected, while a brush or scraper 33 prevents powder from being carried over the roller 3. In a modification, the belt passes round the discs 8, for the greater portion of their circumference, forming a large trough, and the granulated material is discharged through one or more adjustable apertures in the discs.
