995,171. Textile treating apparatus. H.KUBODORA. March 6, 1963 [March 7,1962], No. 8878/63. Headings D1L and D1R. Apparatus for continuous, permeative application of liquid in gel, sol, or colloid form to fibrous sheet material comprises a solution application for having, at its lower surface, a slide surface provided with one or more slits or a large number of small openings, liquid supply means such as a pipe provided on the box, a catch pan disposed below said box and adapted to receive the solution discharged from said box, and means for causing a web of fibrous material to travel so that one surface thereof moves in sliding contact with the slide surface while the liquid is discharged and caused to pass through the fibrous material and flow out of the other surface thereof. In the arrangement shown fibrous material A is guided around the surface of a solution application box 1 and is taken up on drum 15. The box 1 has narrow slits 3 in its slide surface 2 for application of the solution. The interior of the box 1 is divided by plate 4 into an upper solution receiving chamber 5 and a lower solution application chamber 6. The plate 4 has a number of holes 7 and each of the chambers 5 and 6 have overflow pipes 9 and 13 respectively. On leaving the surface 2 of box 1 the material passes between rolls 11 and 12 which spread and smooth any surplus solution on the surfaces of the material and remove any excess solution. A pan 10 is provided to catch any surplus solution. The slits 13 may be replaced by a series of holes. The apparatus may be used to impregnate a fibrous web with a concentrated adhesive such as synthetic resin, rubber &c. and gives a product in which the fibres are firmly bonded in the interior but has a soft fibrous surface.
