Abstract

841,722. Bushing insulators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 4, 1958 [Dec. 9, 1957], No. 38190/57. Class 36. A copper conductor 10 with laminated paper insulation 11 passes through a glass or ceramic insulator 16 which is compressed between a member 14 (having an annular mounting flange 14a) and an end cap 18. A ring 28 threaded on the lower end of conductor 10 engages the end of insulation 11 which has a shoulder 29 engaging member 14. The member 14 carries a pressure ring 17 on three or more springs 26, and the top end cap 18 is retained by a split ring 19 sprung into a groove 20 in conductor 10. The interior of insulator 16 is filled with oil to level 21 (indicated by gauge 23) and gaskets 24 and 25 serve both as sealing rings and to relieve stresses due to local irregularities in the opposed surfaces. Further resilient sealing rings are provided at 30, 31, 32 and 33.
