734,863. Capacitors ; mounting terminals. BRENNAN, J. B. Dec. 4, 1952, No. 30778/52. Classes 37 and 38 (1). An electrolytic device has the open end of its container sealed by two resilient insulating members with opposed mating surfaces, between which extends at least one conducting member. Fig. 1 shows an electrolytic condenser in which the leads 12, 13 from the electrode assembly 10 in an aluminium can 11, pass between layers 15, 16 of rubber or like material. The leads may consist of narrow strips of aluminium foil. A flanged disc 17 of aluminium supports the inner rubber ring 16, and the top of can 11 is spun over to press the resilient portions together and provide a sealed container. Modifications are described in which conductor 12 is fixed to disc 17 which is also provided with a terminal for mounting the condenser, or with a threaded projecting portion so that the condenser can be screwed into a threaded socket. The disc 17 and the inner portion of the top of can 11 may be coated with rubber material, instead of using the individual rubber member 15, 16. As shown in Fig. 9, the top of the can need not be spun over, and the disc 17 may consist of a solid disc of metal or plastic material such as phenol-formaldehyde. The edge of disc 17 may be provided with a ribbed projection to give a portion of increased pressure. An external metal ring may also be provided to strengthen the upper portion of the container, which can be made of plastic material.
