Abstract
787,695. Electrolytic capacitors; mounting terminals. BRENNAN, J. B. Sept. 23, 1955, No. 27190/55. Classes 37 and 38 (1). An open-ended casing 10 housing an electrolytic capacitor is sealed by means of three discs 22, 24, 26 which rest in the casing upon an inwardly directed shoulder 12 and are compressed against this shoulder by an inwardly turned lip 28 at. the open end of the casing, the two outer discs 22, 24 being made of a non- resilient material and having a smaller diameter than that of the casing and the central disc 26 being made of a deformable resilient material, so that when the discs are compressed the central disc 26 is deformed so as to extend into the annular spaces between the discs 22, 24 and the wall of the casing. Provision is made for taking leads 16, 18 from the capacitor roll 14 through the sealing closure constituted by the discs 22, 24, 26. In the arrangement illustrated lead 16 is held in contact with the casing 10 while the lead 18 is led through apertures in the discs to terminate in a pin 42, the aperture in the disc 26 being in the form of a slit so that the resilient material presses tightly against the lead 18. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), both leads are taken to pins secured on the outer one of the three discs. In addition, to avoid the need for apertures in all three discs the leads are taken around the edge of the innermost disc, inwardly along its outer surface and then through apertures in the resilient disc and outer rigid disc. At least one lead is coated with a layer of insulation to prevent both leads making contact with the casing.
