Abstract

753,184. Capacitors; mounting terminals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 13, 1954, No. 23561/54. Classes 37 and 38 (1). A capacitor is sealed within a casing 1 by providing the casing with an internal ridge 2, pressing a resilient insulating disc 3, e.g. of silicone rubber, against the ridge by means of a a stiff insulating disc 4, e.g. of impregnated laminated glass cloth, passing a lead 6 from the capacitor through the discs and welding it to an external lead 8, and sealing the discs in place by means of a thermosetting resin 10. In the arrangement shown, which is particularly applicable to the sealing of electrolytic capacitors, the lead 6 is made of the same material as the electrode to which it is connected and is welded to the lead 8, which may be of copper or nickel, at 7, the welded connection being supported within the thermosetting resin 10. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the leads 6, 8 pass through an insulating tube which is surrounded and supported by the thermosetting resin 10, the weld 7 lying within the tube and being protected thereby. It is stated that this construction may also be employed for dry capacitors.
