Abstract
1,107,304. Shedded porcelain insulators. FERRANTI Ltd. 18 May, 1966 [1 May, 1965], No. 18407/65. Heading H2C. A shedded porcelain bushing insulator comprises two separate cylindrical portions 11, 12 joined by a collar 30 having an annular web 22 which is located between the adjacent ends of the two portions. The collar, the web and an internal collar 27 are formed as an integral unit of metal, fibre glass or an epoxy resin. The unit is pressed towards the portion 12 to compress a gasket 26 and cement 32 is supplied under pressure through a duct 38. This step may be carried out with the parts in inverted position if the cement is of fluent consistency. After the cement has set the other portion 11 is similarly secured in place. If the unit is of metal it may be used to apply a potential to an electrode such as a condenser plate within the bushing and connected to a tapping 28.
