Abstract

841,333. Oil well derricks. MOORE CORPORATION L.C. April 9, 1958 [Dec. 16, 1957], No. 11282/58. Class 78 (4). A base 6 supporting a draw-works 11 and oil derrick 7 is transferred on rails 2 from a barge 1 to a stationary support 31 using the usual drilling line 15 and a sling 18. After fastening the base to the support 31 the mast can be raised by attaching the sling 18 to the gin-pole. The inclination of the rails 2 is adjustable by jacks 4, and during transfer the mast rolls on rollers 27 on a cradle 21, Fig. 2, supported on a single rope 23 and adjustable for height by a winch 25. Links 28 steady the cradle during transit but are removed during the transferring operation so that the barge can roll without twisting the mast. The base can be transferred back to the barge, after lowering the mast, by passing the sling 18 round a pulley 33 on the base before attaching it to the barge at 19.
