Abstract

999,616. Boring earth, &c. TEL-E-SECT PRODUCTS Inc. Oct. 17, 1962 [Nov. 1, 1961], No. 39341/62. Heading E1F. [Also in Division B8] A power driven earth boring auger 19, Fig. 1 is mounted on the extensible boom 12, 15 of a mobile jib crane 5 through a link 30, having a pair of pivots 29, 33 disposed longitudinally and transversely of the boom so that, during boring, the auger 19 is directly below the boom 12, 15 but may be swung to a position parallel to and to one side of the boom for storage purposes during transport. A pair of sleeves 27, 28 is provided for the pivot pin 29, one sleeve 27 being attached to the end of the boom 12 and the other 28 to the extensible slinger 15. During boring, with the slinger 15 extended, interengaging flanges 34, 35 may withdraw the pin 29 from the sleeve 27 (as shown) but for storage the slinger 15 is retracted to re-engage the pin 29 in the sleeve 27. The auger 19 is raised alongside the boom through a cable 40, Fig. 6, attached to a lug 41 at a mid-position of the auger and drawn upwards through an hydraulic ram device 45, 46 mounted on the boom and co-operating with fixed and moveable pulleys 42, 43. The cable 40 passes over a pulley 39 on a bracket 38 mounted to one side of the boom 12 so that the auger 19 is caused to swing about both pivots 29, 33 until the link 30 has been raised to a horizontal position transversely of the boom. The auger 19 is finally drawn into a double armed supporting bracket 48, Fig. 9, in which it is positively located by an interlocking latch mechanism 51, 54. Inter-engaging lugs 36, 37 on the sleeve 27 and link 30 prevent inadvertent withdrawal of the pin 29. A winch 56 mounted on the end of the slinger 15 for use in pole erecting is described in Specification 999,615 (see Division B8). The sling 63 of the winch may be used to support the boom against a tree, &c., during boring.
